Marcus D. Hurlbut

Marcus Hurlbut has been in the independent school world for over forty years. He began his career in boarding schools before moving on to Roxbury Latin School in Boston as Dean of Students. He then went on to head three schools over the next thirty years – The Derryfield School (NH), Friends Academy (NY) and St. Margaret’s Episcopal School in San Juan Capistrano, California. He founded a local chapter of the national Breakthrough Collaborative in all three schools.

 

Marc holds a B.A. in Political Science from Union College and an M.A. in Liberal Studies from Dartmouth College. He has served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Independent Schools, the Independent School Association of Northern New England, and the California Association of Independent Schools where he sat on the Board of Standards for four years. He is a member of the Country Day Headmaster’s Association and the Headmasters Association, serving as president in 2001. Marc has chaired more than twenty accreditation teams.

 

Since joining Educators’ Collaborative Marc has assisted a range of schools with head and senior administrative searches, mentored new heads, and advised on governance and strategic planning. He was named Co-Managing Partner of the firm in 2017.
