About the School
Founded in 1964, The Westmont Montessori School in Chester, NJ serves 125 students, ages 15 months-6 years, in an environment that fosters independence, self-esteem, integrity, and personal responsibility. The school’s Montessori philosophy strives to empower each child by providing the foundation to excel academically, to develop respect for self and others, and to value the world in which we live. Founded in the early 1900s by Dr. Maria Montessori the Montessori philosophy sparked a worldwide revolution to educate the whole child. This innovative thinking shaped a new type of learning environment designed to kindle the individual interest of each child. Today, The Westmont Montessori School, continues to embrace this philosophy. From its vast curriculum to the unique multi-age classrooms, to the strength of each teacher, Westmont encourages children to think for themselves, to discover, question, build resilience, create, lead, and collaborate. Westmont’s thriving, nurturing environment leads to lifelong success in academic, emotional, and social skills.
Westmont offers programs tailored for various ages from 15 months to 6 years. The youngest program is offered to children accompanied by a caregiver. The Toddler and Early Childhood programs offer both half-day and full-day options that run either three or five days per week. In Kindergarten students spend half their time in Early Childhood classrooms and the other half in a homogeneous classroom. More information about these programs can be found at www.westmontmontessori.org
Westmont’s accreditations, which include the American Montessori Society (AMS) and the Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools (MSCES), ensure that the teachers, curriculum and facilities uphold the highest standards set by the accrediting organizations. All lead teachers are Montessori certified; classrooms are supported by assistant teachers and a robust specials and substitute staff.
