About the School

The Swain School, a coed, independent school serving 300 students preschool through eighth grade, is seeking a Head of School to begin July 1, 2020. Located on 20 picturesque acres in suburban Allentown, PA, Swain is an inclusive, equitable, and richly diverse community that embraces the experiences, cultural beliefs and perspectives of all people.

Celebrating its founding 90 years ago, Swain embraces its founder’s vision to “nurture the collective joy of learning and individual spirit within each child.” Its mission is to “inspire students to achieve academic excellence, develop a strong sense of character, and act responsibly in a changing world.” Swain empowers children to build confidence, explore knowledge, and work collaboratively in a diverse and safe environment.

Swain’s academic program is one honed by years of research, based on best teaching practices, and adapted each year to best serve each community of learners. Key to our curriculum is a focus on challenging students to write, speak, and express themselves clearly and articulately. The School’s robust academic program includes language arts, social studies (or humanities), math, science, engineering & design, Spanish, movement or physical education, music, art and theater arts. An active outdoor education program at each grade level blends, supports and bolsters classroom experiences. Technology is woven throughout the program as a tool to enhance learning.

In addition to high-quality academic opportunities, students are invited to participate in a number of stimulating extracurricular activities, including sports teams and drama productions, for students in grades 5-8.

Swain has recently launched the ‘Reimagine Campaign’ to invest in the future of the School with improvements to the physical plant and expanded educational opportunities.

The Swain School is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate in any of its personnel policies or procedures against any employee or applicant for employment on the basis of age, race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, disability, or religious belief.
