The Assistant Head of School position is newly created and represents an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant school community that serves gifted and talented students.  Under the leadership of HOS Tim Costello the school has grown and has established a solid reputation as an innovative, child-centered independent school located in the attractive suburbs northwest of Chicago. SAA seeks an Assistant Head of School who is passionate about working with a dynamic faculty, engaged families, and inspiring students and who is excited to share his/her educational leadership and expertise with the SAA community. The Assistant Head of School is the secondary leader in the school. It is a year round position. The Assistant Head reports to the Head of School and serves as the Chief Instructional Officer of the school, responsible for the supervision and support of all teachers and instructional staff.  The Assistant HOS will join a committed and collaborative administrative team of fourteen.

The newly created Assistant HOS position has evolved from the former position of Director of Teaching and Learning. Successful candidates will have an advanced degree and demonstrated experience in leading faculty and working with gifted children. In addition, the Assistant Head of School must:

*Demonstrate a belief in and commitment to an inclusive, equitable and diverse school community

  • Possess an understanding and appreciation of gifted children, their capabilities, insights, thoughtfulness, intensities and humor
  • Display an enthusiasm that energizes a love of learning throughout the community
  • Exhibit forward-thinking and reflective leadership, bringing innovative ideas to life
  • Enjoy collaborating with faculty while also effectively discerning appropriate times for decisive and expedient decision making
