Educators’ Collaborative is very pleased to be assisting Lake Forest Academy in its search for a new Head of School to begin July 1, 2019.

About the School

Founded in 1857, LFA is a co-educational college preparatory school for boarding and day students in grades 9 through 12. The school is located on the North Shore in Lake Forest, Illinois, about 30 miles north of Chicago. The school enrolls 435 students, about half of whom are day students and the other half boarders. International students comprise 26% of the student body, coming from 40 countries and territories. Thirty percent of domestic students self-identify as persons of color.  The school dedicates $5.2 m. of financial support to qualified students to promote a diverse, excellent and inclusive student body. There are 113 faculty and staff. Seventy-one percent of the faculty hold advanced degrees. A student-teacher ratio of 7:1 allows for small class sizes and close individual attention to students.  LFA graduates join a network of more than 5,000 alumni and alumnae who remain connected to the school as trustees, parents, grandparents, donors, panelists at school events and mentors for current students. Over 800 parents and guardians, wherever they live, remain active participants in The Parents Association.

LFA’s operating budget is $29.4 m. and its endowment is $36 m. The school is accredited by the Independent School Association of the Central States (ISACS) and the State of Illinois and is governed by a 40-member Board of Trustees.

LFA’s 2014 Strategic Plan, “Educating for Tomorrow: Developing Global Citizen,” focuses on developing global citizens through unique educational experiences within a diverse and caring community. The Board of Trustees is currently finalizing an updated 2018 Strategic Plan setting forth goals within the four main initiatives—educational experience, multiculturalism, marketing, and financial strength. For over 161 years, the Academy has stayed true to its core values of educating the innovative minds of the next generation.
