About the School

The Headship of Beacon Academy is an exciting opportunity to lead a vibrant school community built on the Montessori principles of learning and the standards of the International Baccalaureate.  In less than a decade Beacon has emerged as a fully enrolled, innovative independent school in the vibrant community of greater Chicago. Students experience a learning community that inspires self-motivation and personal challenge and celebrates intellectual, cultural, and socio-economic diversity.

Beacon students learn in various cohorts throughout their school day, grouped by developmental level, area of interest, or level of experience. As a result, they are rarely segregated by age or grade but participate in many smaller learning communities within the school day. Ninth- and tenth-grade core classes are two-year mixed-age loops, offering opportunities for the social development and reorientation that characterizes early adolescence as they rehearse and refine essential skills.

Students increase their learning through meaningful experiences in the arts, athletics and service. The school building is modern and bright and shares an office complex with Rotary International. Beacon avails itself of experiential learning in Evanston, Chicago and through trips in the United States and abroad.

The outstanding faculty includes an administrative team that is collaborative and innovative.

Beacon Academy is governed by a supportive Board of Trustees comprised of business and community leaders, lawyers, professors, past and present parents. Currently there are 15 members.

Beacon Academy is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate in any of its personnel policies or procedures against any employee or applicant for employment on the basis of age, race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, disability or religious belief.
