Since 1875, Wasatch Academy has been graduating young people of outstanding
character, dependability, creativity and global appreciation. Wasatch Academy is a nationally and internationally recognized college preparatory school providing opportunities for all students in grades 8 through 12 whether bound for college or other educational/career tracks. Students come from all corners of the United States and the world. Students enrolled this year come from 26 states and 27 countries. Approximately 170 boarding students come together with 30 day students from the local communities to enjoy the rich, expanded curriculum and the plentiful activities on campus and
beyond. Wasatch Academy is proud of creating a learning environment that best suits
students’ individual needs, which is supported by a strong learning support team. The curriculum at Wasatch is creative but intensive and strives to reach every student’s
highest potential in any given field.
The 35-acre campus is located in a high-desert mountain valley at an altitude of 6,000
feet. Though the school is located in a rural area, two of Utah’s major social and cultural hubs, Provo and Orem, are less than an hour away. The mountains around the valley reach over 10,000 feet and offer great camping and sporting opportunities, as well as extraordinary views. Five national parks are nearby, providing excellent opportunities for
students to develop a true appreciation of the natural environment. Wasatch Academy
has developed a strong working relationship with the city of Mount Pleasant and is dedicated to fostering bonds both within the school and with the wider community. An
example of this partnership is seen in the equestrian and swimming facilities and
programs WA offers to area residents.
The impressive facilities at Wasatch Academy include the Loftin-Lewis Student Center,
Craighead Humanities Building, Reemtsma Mathematics and Science Building, the Anne N. Coltharp Center for Evolving Technologies, the Physical Arts Building, the
Tiger’s Den Performing Arts Center, six residence halls, an administration building, a wellness center, a coffeehouse, the Studio Arts building, the Music Conservatory, the
Joseph R. Loftin Field House, the Wilkey/Brunger Gymnasium, Liberal Hall (the original school building and museum) and the new Engineering Arts and Fabrication building,
which opened in the fall of 2019. The newly remodeled Learning Support Center and its program are unequaled. The majority of faculty live in school-owned housing
surrounding the campus, making them easily accessible to students. The school also has access to a ten-acre ski hill in the Manti-La Sal National Forest.
Matt Culberson, Wasatch Academy’s current Head of School, has announced his
decision to step down at the end of the 2022-23 school year. Joan Beauregard and
Sally Mixsell of Educators Collaborative have been engaged to assist the Board of
Trustees in identifying Mr. Culberson’s successor.
