This is a rare and exciting opportunity to lead a uniquely child-centered independent school serving the vibrant community of Raleigh, NC. For 65 years the school has functioned as a village of play-based, hands-on, integrated learning for students 18 months of age through fifth grade. An expert faculty and highly competent administrative team work closely and cooperatively with the parents, all of whom offer voluntary services to the school.

The Raleigh School, a diverse community, is at full enrollment, with a balanced budget and a number of successful annual events. There is also a modest endowment. The campus is comprised of 18 wooded acres, 18 classrooms, the Arts and Athletic Center, Media center and extensive natural play areas. Outdoor learning, including exploration through field trips, is integral to the curriculum.

About the Position

The ideal candidate for Head of School will have demonstrated success in school leadership and management, including classroom experience, collaboration with faculty and parents, organizational acumen, excellent communication skills, business savvy, warmth, curiosity and a sense of humor.  Above all the ideal candidate will respect and embrace the school’s researched-based, developmental approach to rewarding each child’s natural curiosity and building social-emotional skills.

Raleigh is located in the southeastern corner of the Research Triangle, a prospering area with three leading research universities, many high-tech companies and an impressive array of museums and cultural activities.
