Co-ed Day school
360 students, Pre-K – Grade 12
Head of School for July 1, 2018
Entering its 25th year of educating students to achieve their highest potential, Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School was the vision of a group of Joplin parents who were determined to provide an excellent educational experience to prepare their children for college and life.
The school opened its doors to 185 students in Pre- Kindergarten – Grade 9 in the fall of 1993. Today, this ISACS accredited school has expanded to a Pre-K – Grade 12 enrollment of approximately 360 students. Its classical Western civilization curriculum emphasizes the study of classic texts – both modern and ancient, the humanities, foreign languages, studio and performing arts, mathematics, and the sciences; and technology is fully integrated into the school’s programs. Since its inception, the school has distinguished itself academically, artistically, and athletically at the national and state levels, and students regularly receive enrollment and impressive merit scholarship offers at selective and highly selective colleges across the country.
The campus is situated on 26 acres, and has grown from 45,000 sq. ft., to more than 90,000 sq. ft. The most recent addition was the Humphreys Arts and Student Life Complex in 2011, which doubled the size of the school facilities by adding a world-class concert hall, a second library, a commons area, a courtyard, a foreign languages lab, several classrooms and small group rooms, a second art studio, and music rooms. This addition has enabled the school to further develop its extremely strong choral and instrumental music programs. In 2015, the Upper School Vocal Ensemble was selected to perform in Carnegie Hall. The school has built a reputation over the past five years for bringing world-class concert and theatre performers to the Joplin area with its Concert and Theater Series.
Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School seeks an experienced and dynamic individual who can lead the school as it continues to evolve and mature. No longer a ‘new’ school, TJ is an outstanding institution in a fine mid-western city.
