Co-ed Day school
750 students, Grades Pre-K – 12th
Head of School for July 1, 2018
The Galloway School is a top independent school that is philosophically grounded, learner-focused and highly regarded for its success in academic preparation and student empowerment.
Established by Elliott Galloway in 1969, as an independent day school, The Galloway School serves a diverse student body of approximately 750 students in preschool through 12th grade. The 98 faculty members, more than half of whom have advanced degrees, have an average tenure of 16 years teaching at Galloway. The challenging curriculum is presented through engaging, experiential methodology.
The school is at full enrollment, annual giving is at an all-time high, and there is excitement about the bold, strategic direction embodied in the school’s unique, instructional delivery model called 4D Learning. Galloway graduates attend a variety of “good fit” colleges and universities in the US and abroad.
When asked what they value most about being a student at The Galloway School, students frequently respond, “the freedom” – – freedom to pursue their interests; freedom to try something new; freedom to express their opinions and freedom to simply be themselves. The school’s no-cut policy ensures that any student who wants to participate in the arts or sports can do so.
Since its founding in 1969, The Galloway School has been a consistent beacon for progress in Atlanta. When Galloway first opened its doors, it was the only independent school in Atlanta to welcome all students regardless of race, ethnicity, or nationality, and the school remains committed to progressive ideals today. Located in Atlanta’s Chastain Park, the Galloway campus offers a beautiful environment that’s both invigorating and inspiring.
Atlanta is a cosmopolitan city in the South, described as the city of 5 million people nesting in a forest. An international city with the world’s busiest airport, a diverse economy, myriad cultural institutions including the High Museum of Art, the Beltline, and the Center for Civil and Human Rights, Atlanta draws residents from around the world. Higher learning institutions including Georgia Tech, Emory University and Spelman and Morehouse Colleges offer opportunities for ongoing learning and collaboration with the Galloway community.
The Galloway School is accredited by and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS), the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA), the Atlanta Area Association of Independent Schools (AAAIS) and the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC).
